August 14, 2017Literacy Conference presenters Baldy, Lightsey, and Smith

School Leaders Present Literacy Initiative at International Conference

 Colquitt County School District leaders recently presented to educators from all over the world at the International Literacy Association Conference in Orlando, Florida. 

Their presentation was entitled Closing the Reading Achievement Gap at Secondary Level: A Practical Approach. Additionally, they focused on sharing the ELT (Extended Learning Time) framework being implemented at Willie J. Williams Middle School and Charlie A. Gray Junior High School, along with the outcome data that shows promising gains in reading ability.

The Colquitt County Board of Education reserves the right to reject any or all proposals, to waive technicalities, and to approve those proposals deemed to be in its best interest. The calendar will not change for this school year. Missed days because of storms and illnesses will not be made up. The last day of school will remain May 24th, post-planning May 25th and 26th, and graduation Saturday, May 27th.

HB91 - Graduation Petition Process for CCHS Students - Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 91 into law on March 30, 2015 thereby creating new code section, O.C.G.A. §20-2-281.1.  This law provided that students shall no longer be required to earn a passing score on any graduation tests to earn a high school diploma.

Under the 2009 state law (O.C.G.A. 20-2-2131), parents/guardians may request a transfer to another school within the Colquitt County School District.

Colquitt County School System is committed to providing all students with a safe and civil school environment in which all members of the school community are treated with dignity and respect. In accordance with federal, state, and local policies, procedures and practices, Colquitt County School System expressly prohibits the bullying, harassment or intimidation of any person, by any means or method, which occurs on school property, on school vehicles, at designated school bus stops, or at school related functions or activities, or by use of data or software that is accessed through a computer, computer system, computer network, or other electronic technology of a local school system. Students who witness bullying or who are victims of bullying behaviors should make a report to a teacher or school administrator so that an appropriate investigation can take place. If, after an investigation, a student is found to be in violation of the Code of Conduct bullying policy, the student shall be disciplined by appropriate measures up to, and including, suspension and expulsion. Retaliation following a report of bullying is strictly prohibited and may result in strong disciplinary action.
